The course

The heartbeat of the drum is one of the oldest sounds of comfort and healing, and it has a quiet way of helping us slow down and feel more at ease. The course will teach you to work with the drum in this way, combining its sound and vibration with the practice of sound healing: creating sacred space, working with what practitioners understand as the body’s energy field, and using the drum, rattle and feather as your tools.

You will learn to cleanse and prepare yourself, your space, and your tools to work with the drum, rattle and feather, and to carry out a full sound healing treatment from start to finish.

You will practice dowsing, or sound mapping, with the drum, a way of sensing what practitioners describe as the body’s energy field, and learn to work with yourself as well as with others. By the end of the course, you will be able to confidently offer one-to-one sessions, distance and online work, and group drum circles.

Over five modules, you will build practical, confident skills as a sound healing practitioner while also undertaking your own personal journey. No previous experience is required, and support is provided for those who are just starting out. You will learn the benefits and therapeutic power of the drum for healing yourself, others and the earth.

The course runs each day from 10 am to 4 pm

What to bring

You will need your own handheld frame drum, rattle and feather; both natural-skin and vegan options are welcome, and workshops are available if you would like to make your own drum or rattle. We will also have some drums and rattles for you to borrow if needed.

Please bring a shared vegetarian/vegan lunch; there is a fully equipped kitchen on site for you to warm food if needed. We will provide refreshments.

You will also need to bring a cushion or pillow, blanket and eye covering, as well as a notebook and pen.

As we are on Dartmoor, and we will be working outside at times, please bring appropriate clothing for the weather.
